Would Applebees and Target be multi million dollar mega chains if working stiffs didn't eat/shop there?

What would happen if only the wealthy were to spend money and working stiffs went on a spending freeze at certain places?

Lets say working class people decided not to eat at Applebees and decided not to shop at Target for one year. Would the wealthy be able to keep these chains gainfully employed since they "create jobs" according to neocons?Would Applebees and Target be multi million dollar mega chains if working stiffs didn't eat/shop there?
NOPE

That is the problem with the economy now.

The largest class of consumers have reduced spending because:

-they either can't afford to keep spending or

-they aren't sure if they might come into work to get told their job is leaving for China, Mexico, or Canada.

Isn't free trade great?!

Neocons don't understand economics.

They believe money starts at the top and trickles down creating jobs. When in reality that is a small part of the economy.

It must trickle up, and has been doing so much faster than it trickles down for quite a long time.

Demand creates jobs, and those jobs will continue to be created if demand for the product requires the larger labor forces, despite an extra 3% tax on the profit being made.Would Applebees and Target be multi million dollar mega chains if working stiffs didn't eat/shop there?
Nope. If everyone stopped spending their money there, then they would go under.
Not in a million years.Would Applebees and Target be multi million dollar mega chains if working stiffs didn't eat/shop there?
Please go take Econ 101 before posting any more dribble.
That is called "power of the consumer"

Unfortunately for you, Target and Applebees produce a product that the consumer wants...so for this to happen and for your scenerio to have any real relevance we would all have to stop wanting stuff...HA! Right...

Addition:

Yeah...across the street at Wal-Mart and Outback Steakhouse...

If people wanted something different then they wouldn't go to these places. If you don't want to shop at Target or eat at Applebees then don't...but the basic American consumer doesn't share your opinion. If they did they wouldn't frequent these places and the "mom and pop" businesses they replaced would still be around.

"power of the consumer" is the idea that consumers make their voices heard with their money. The American people continue to make their voices heard and that is why Wal-Mart is packed everytime I go there. It's funny how many people complain about these "rich, greedy companies"...but then go and give them their money every weekend. Your question shows a complete lack of understanding of our economy and basic business practices. You offer products and services people want and they pay you for those products and services...obviously Wal-Mart does this better than anyone because they make billions of dollars a year...that's not greed that is the voice of the consumer!Would Applebees and Target be multi million dollar mega chains if working stiffs didn't eat/shop there?
The stupidity of this question is puzzling. Are you trying to make some sort of point?
If you are saying 'demand' is as critical as 'supply' then I agree. In fact, I would say "Duh!"

People want to complain about the big mega-marts, but people shop there or they wouldn't be building more mega-marts!
